Srinagar, Jan 14: Former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti, today said that the party will register a remarkable victory and win more seats in the forthcoming polls.
Addressing party functionaries, leaders and activists of Chadoora Assembly segment, Mehbooba stressed for greater coordination between the workers and the party leaders. She said that that every person associated with the PDP must take party’s vision to the common masses of the State and make them aware about the PDP’s role in defending State’s special status and providing a bulwark against the present swirling tides.
She said that PDP’s cardinal principle has always been to safeguard State’s unique identity and making favourable ground for dialogue and reconciliation so that the vicious cycle of violence is stopped. Click here to watch video
“The present wave of harassment and intimidation against the youth is only proving calamitous for the State’s future and has pushed Kashmir towards the precipice of disaster. Instead of militating against the youth, there is a dire need of dialogue with all stake holders for the resolution of Kashmir. The central leadership has to understand that if it continues with its iron fist approach, Kashmir embargo would continue to hangover its head like the sword of Damocles,” the PDP president said.
Mehbooba questioned the timing of filing of charge sheet in the 2016 JNU sedition case, in which seven Kashmiris have been named, saying the students were being used to score political points ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
“No surprises here. We are months away from the 2019 general election and like always, using Kashmiris to score extra political points with the Indian electorate has become somewhat of a pre-requisite,” Mehbooba said in a series of tweets.
“Timing of the charge sheet couldn’t be any more suspicious. When UPA was in power, it decided to send Afzal Guru to the gallows and to this day, J&K is paying a price,” the PDP president said.
“Wonder how many more Kashmiris, along with their families, will have to pay a price to secure the political fortunes of national parties,” she said.
In the meantime, Mehbooba welcomed Centre’s decision to allow a Pakistani delegation to inspect the Chenab basin for under Indus Water Treaty provision. She said that India and Pakistan should collectively work on similar interstate agreements which will benefit them in the best interests of peace.
She said that this treaty has survived despite all odds and confrontation between two neighbours. “Glad to know that GOI has agreed to the visit of a Pakistani delegation for inspection of the Chenab basin under Indus Water Treaty provisions”, she tweeted.
