SRINAGAR, Nov 11: State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) today passed on directions to Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Baramulla with regard to medical facilities for prisoners lodged at District Jail.
After hearing the case titled “HCBA decries use of ‘force’ on Baramulla Jail inmates’, the SHRC Chairperson, Justice Bilal Nazki, said the SP SHRC has filed the report before the Commission and ordered that the copy of the report be given to SSP Baramulla and also SP District Jail Baramulla for their response.
“It appears from the report that proper medical care is not available in the jail. There are inmates and no doctor is posted in the Jail. As an interim measure, the Commission directs Dy Commissioner Baramulla and Chief Medical Officer Baramulla to ensure that a doctor should visit everyday,” Justice Nazki ordered.
In his order, the SHRC Chairperson added: “Arrangements should be made for visit of a lady doctor at least twice a week, as reported there are number of women prisoners also. The directions shall be complied forthwith by Wednesday. The response shall be filed by SP District Jail Baramulla within four weeks.”
