Shops, showroom gutted in Udhampur, Jammu fire incidents

JAMMU : Nearly half a dozen shops and a showroom gutted in twin fire incidents in Udhampur and Jammu districts of the Union Territory.
Police spokesman here on Sunday said that a major fire broke out in a car showroom on Diwali night in Udhampur town. “Soon after receiving information, fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was controlled,” said the spokesman adding that no human injury was reported in the incident.
Meanwhile, Union MoS in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also Member Parliament from Kathua-Udhampur Constituency, taking to microblogging site said, “Learnt about fire incident at a Showroom in Shiv Nagar area of #Udhampur, J&K.”
“Contacted district administration and informed by Deputy Commissioner that fire has been brought under control without any loss of life. Must compliment the firefighters for their timely operation,” he wrote.
Meanwhile in another incident, during wee hours at about 0351 hours, suddenly fire broke out in the main market of Ranbir Singh Pura near Daljeet Chowk in which six shops and one store completely destroyed.
“The fire broke out most probably due to electric shock,” Jai Pal Sharma, Station House Officer, Police Station R S Pura here said.
He said, “no any loss of life reported so far while fire tenders and fire fighters pressed into service and it took 3-4 hours to douse the flames.” (AGENCIES)
