DODA, June 12: Shopkeepers and people living around bus stand and its adjoining areas are facing hardships due to piles of garbage.
Unaccounted garbage dumping at bus stand and its adjoining areas here is an open invitation of many health hazards, but the authorities seem to be in deep slumber.
Shopkeepers around bus stand have expressed their anguish over the concerned department’s working and said that the latter should be held responsible for any health hazard.
“Garbage piles near bus stand and its adjoining areas is an open invitation to any health hazard and the concerned department should clean it as soon as possible without wasting time”, shopkeepers told the EXCELSIOR, adding that concerned Municipal Committee is not performing its job sincerely to keep the city neat and clean.
“Several times the Municipal Committee officials were made aware of this nuisance, but no action has been taken by them. It is due to lethargic approach of the Municipal Committee that we and our family are at risk of any health hazard”, they added.
Foul smell from the dumped garbage has also created problems for the people especially pedestrians, but Municipal Committee is not taking any step to remove the garbage piles, a passerby Mohammad Ismail said.
Garbage is scattered everywhere in the town and no dustbins were installed to collect the same, a shopkeeper said, adding that if the garbage dumps remained unattended, any major health hazard can break down.
People including the shopkeepers have appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and DDC Doda Vikas Sharma to take action against the officers and officials responsible for not keeping the city neat and clean.
They also appealed to the DDC Doda Vikas Sharma to get the dustbins installed in market places and even outside the residences and initiated action against those, who scatter the garbage on roads. They also demanded action against the officers and officials, who are not performing their legitimate duties of keeping city neat and clean.
