Srinagar, Feb 8: Residents of Chak Mirzapur, Ramnagri in Shopian today protested against a total absence of basic amenities including water, road and electricity in the area.
Scores of residents today assembled here in the press enclave and stressed on the need of the administration to take their issues-due to which they are suffering immensely.
Abdul Rashid Phampda while talking to the reporters said that the area was not having any proper water supply for the last more than 10 years. “The females of the area have to travel miles to get a bucket of clean drinking water,” he said
While saying that the area has been overlooked by the consecutive governments, he said that the roads in the area are in shambles for last so many time, “and nobody seems to be taking our issues seriously,” he said.
The residents further said that the due to the recent snowfall during which their orchards suffered immensely, they have not been compensated properly till date. “What have we been given is Rs 2000, this amount has been given to us as compensation and they have just made a mockery of our suffering,” said another protestor.
The Sarpanch of the area, who was accompanying the protestors, said that he has not been able to help the people of the area who economically backward due to various administrative hurdles.
The protestors have appealed the Lt Governor G C Murmu to intervene and play a role in getting them out of the miseries.
