JAMMU, July 25: Dubbing Jammu Municipal Corporation’s style of functioning as anti-people and corrupt, Shiv Sena Jammu Kashmir has appealed Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to order a probe into shady practices of JMC top authorities.
“Instead of taking care of people of Jammu, JMC top authorities are indulging in open loot of public money through wrong doings with no accountability,” said Ashwani Gupta, President of Shiv Sena JK, while addressing a press conference, here today
While elaborating, he said that a few months ago, JMC wanted to impose property tax in Jammu citing the lack of funds to take up development works whereas on the other hand, biggest source of revenue by leasing out hoarding is being discouraged for more than a year thus annually losing Rs 4.6 crores.
“JMC is leasing out hoardings, which is done after every 4-5 years by way of tender. We are sorry to say that a huge corruption scandal is going on in revenue section of JMC, which is learned to have cancelled the contract at last stage for discouraging the highest bidder and carrying on dubious and corrupt daily `Parchi’ system,” he said and demanded a thorough probe by Anti-Corruption Bureau to book the corrupt officials who were pocketing Rs 30-35 lacs every month by delaying the allotment of tender work.
The Shiv Sena leader also alleged that recently installed sign boards in Jammu was another example of wasting public money as the work was done by JMC in most haphazard manner “JMC and its consultant have simply failed to implement this simple project and instead of being a help to general public, created another hazard and nuisance in the City,” he said.
Mr Gupta also demands that all Government, public and private sign boards in Jammu should be in Dogri, which is also the official language of UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the press conference, Shiv Sena leader was accompanied by Rakesh Kak, Nathpal Chodhary, Raj Singh, Ramesh Gupta, Raju Sakata, Pawan Manhas, Mangu Ram, Sanjeev Kumar, Sanjeev Sudan and Satish Kachroo.
