JAMMU, Feb 12: Led by their president Ashok Gupta, activists of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena here today staged a protest demonstration against the curbs at Lakhanpur border and demanded restart of Inter-State bus service.
Addressing protesters Gupta said that unnecessary curbs at the gateway of J&K have caused inconvenience to tourists and passengers.
He said that passengers coming to J&K by interstate buses are asked by the authorities on duty at COVID Check Post, Lakhanpur to de-board their vehicles from where they take the J&K RTC buses for their onwards journey to Jammu.
“When there is no such ban in any other part of the country, why the J&K authorities are unnecessarily harassing the passengers here,” Gupta maintained adding that passengers have to pay extra fare from Lakhanpur to Jammu besides they have to put more labour in shifting the luggage from one bus to other which will be troublesome for some old and infirm passengers.
The Shiv Sena leader said that there is no restriction on people traveling Jammu in trains from other states.
“No SOPs are maintained in J&K RTC buses where 80 to 85 passengers are boarded in a bus having a capacity of 60 passengers,” he further said.
Gupta said that people travelling in private cars have to fill up a pink form which is then signed by some authority after which the person is allowed to travel without any COVID test and this all exercise makes no sense.
Kimti, Bachchan, Surjeet, Kalu, Bantu, Prem, Labbha, Abhishek and others were also present in the protest demonstration.
