It was reported that Sports Authority of India has decided to shift its Sports Training Centre (STC) Udhampur to Jammu. It is pertinent to mention here that STC Udhampur was established in 2001 so that Youth of Udhampur district could be benefitted. Sports Stadium Udhampur is in a shambles and incomplete since long. Even sports officers posted at district level in past have failed to do justice with the youth of Udhampur by not providing infrastructure and highlighting the needs before the State Government. It is due to apathy of sports authorities that Udhampur district lags behind in different sports activities.
If proper infrastructure is raised by providing good coaches and institutes then the day is not far when young talent from Udhampur will be medal winners at the national level. I would like to draw the attention of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in general and the authorities at the helm of affairs in Sports Department in particular to intervene and direct the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to shift Sports Training Centre Udhampur to Jammu. It is my appeal to politicians, sportspersons and people from civil society to come on one plateform and fight for the common cause of Udhampur.
