Shifting of courts to Raika-Bahu ‘ill-conceived move’: NDP

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 24: National Democratic Party (NDP) has alleged that it seems a deep rooted conspiracy to shift Jammu High Court and District Courts from Janipur to Raika, falling in Bahu Conservation Reserve and criticized the State Administration for this ‘ill-conceived move’.
In a meeting of the organization held here today under the chairmanship of its convener, NK Atri, the members strongly condemned the move of the State Administration and alleged that present regime appears to be anti-ecology and environment. They said thousands of green trees in Bahu Conservation Reserve will be felled for raising large buildings in the protected forest area which is sheer violation of apex court directives and also National Green Tribunal (NGT). The Jammu citizens’ Forum has already opposed this move and made up mind to move to the NGT and apex court.
The members said Janipur High Court has already over 576 kanals of land and even the Lawyers Chambers and some Lower court buildings were constructed there very recently. The work on boundary wall was completed very recently by JKPCC. There is enough space for expansion and even for the parking. This court has already been established on Forest land by felling many trees. There is need to widen the approach road and have another link road, which can be created from Indira Colony/ Lakad Mandi side and also from Manda area.
The members said there was no need to shift Courts from Janipur on the mere plea of security, defunct fire safety system and narrow approach road. Huge public money has been utilized for raising this vast court complex. It will be plunder of tax payers money if this new proposal was approved. There seems to be ‘some conspiracy’ behind it and the Jammu people must oppose it. Bahu Game Reserve and Ramnagar Wild Life Sanctuary are the lungs of Jammu and causing damage to them would adversely affect the health of the people living here. NDP sought intervention of the Governor into the matter.
Others present in the meeting included- Vijay Anand, JG Sharma, Rakesh Kumar, Adv Narinder Kumar, Ashwani Sharma, Rajesh Kumar, Satish Vaid and Sohan Singh.
