JAMMU, Jan 23: Senior Executive Member Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) and social activist Shama Handoo has demanded immediate shifting of migrant employees and pension holders from Nehru Market quarters to safer places as these quarters have since been declared unsafe by the concerned department.

She said any mishap can take place in case the Government will not shift these migrants to safer places.
Handoo said over five years back the Government had announced construction of quarters at Purkhoo by way of addition alteration to old ORTs there but no headway has been made in this regard till date. She said the Government should take immediate steps for allotting the quarters to these migrants at alternate places and also start addition alteration of TRTs at Purkhoo so that migrants who can’t afford to pay rent outside are shifted there. Handoo said that there are many families putting up in rented accommodation who are totally dependent on meager cash doles from Government and are unable to bear the rent charges out of it. The Government should come to rescue of such families also, she added.
