MENDHAR, Jan 13: A large number of members from Shia community today held protest demonstration and blocked Mendhar-Surankote road for over four hours.
A large number of Shia community members from Gursai area came out on the road near Gursai Nallah and blocked the road. They sat on protest dharna and started shouting slogans. They were demanding arrest of those elements who passed some objectionable remarks against the community and Imam of the local religious place. They alleged that some youth in a vehicle came out at the village during last evening and raised objectionable and provocative remarks.
They were demanding arrest of the people behind this episode. The movement of traffic on this road was disrupted. Sensing flare up of any communal tension, the SDM Mendhar, Tehsildar and SHO Gursai reached the spot and motivated the people to identify the miscreants and arrest them. Then the people lifted dharna at around 2 pm.
