Sheep and wool workers call on Gurezi

JAMMU, Feb 21: Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Nazir Ahmad Gurezi today paid surprise visit to Filtration Plant Boria and took stock of the status and functioning of the vital installation supplying potable water to major parts of Jammu city.
The Minister interacted with the officials and directed them to maintain sanitation around the plant and ensure adequate water supply to the people.
Earlier, the Minister interacted with the representatives of the All J & K Sheep and Wool Worker Association (SWWA) who called on him to project their demands.
The demands projected by the visiting delegation included two and half day pay for para veterinary staff working at farms, feeding and migratory centers, amendment in recruitment rules both gazetted and non-gazetted services, implementation of 6th Pay Commission in favour of Wool Board Employees and proper drug purchase policy.
The Minister heard them patiently and assured that their genuine demands would be looked into phased manner. He assured them that the matter with regard to confirmation in various categories against Gazetted cadres would be taken up with the concerned on priority to explore the possibility of one time relaxation . Responding to the demand of hard duty allowance, the Minister assured them that the matter would be taken with the Finance Department.
The Minister called for organizing awareness among the sheep breeders and farming community about the facilities being provided by the Sheep Department. He also called the field staff to intimate the sheep and cattle breeders to scientific techniques to help them get better revenues.
He also asked the Veterinary experts to work towards the promotion of vital Animal and Sheep Husbandry sector by encouraging the farmers to adopt modern techniques for cattle and sheep rearing.
He said that the sector has huge potential in the State with over sixty percent of the population traditionally associated with this vital activity adding that there was a need to switch over to scientific methods to make it a profitable activity.
State President, J&K Sheep and Wool Workers Association Abdul Guffor Dar and other representative of the association attended the meeting.
