NEW DELHI : Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sahrif is likely to attend the oath taking ceremony of Mr Narendra Modi on May 26.
This was announced by Pakistan Muslim League(N) spokesman Siddique-ul-Farooq to Indian news television channels in an interview today.
Mr Farooq said there was no reason for Mr Sharif not to attend the oath taking ceremony since he was keen to strengthen the relations with India.
He said both the Prime Ministers have an “economic agenda”, want to take the two countries forward and have peace in the entire region.
It is only in an atmosphere of peace that both countries could progress, he said.
He also did not rule out the possibility of an informal interaction between the two Prime Ministers on the occasion. Invitations to Heads of Government of all SAARC nations, including the Pakistan Prime Minister, were sent out on behalf of Mr Modi yesterday to attend his oath taking ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai have already confirmed their participation in the event.
