“Shanghai”, a political thriller revolves around the murder of a political activist Dr. Ahmedi (Prasanjeet Chatterjee). Shalini (Kalki Kochin) was in love with Dr Ahmedi. According to law enforcing agencies Dr. Ahmedi died in an accident. But Shalini believes it was a politically inspired murder. She decides to bring the truth before public. Abhay Deol plays T. N. Krishnan, who is appointed in the area for damage control. Emran Hasmi plays Joginder Parmar he shoots porn movies. He claims that he is in possession of proof that can bring down the Government.
British model Scarlet Mellush Wilson plays an item number “Imported Kamariya” that has been set to music by Vishal – Shekhar.
PVR Pictures’ Ist Film “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na” was a big hit. But the films that followed earned huge losses for them. “Aisha”, “Teen They Bhai” and “Kheley Hum Jee Jaan Se” flopped in a row. The makers have pinned high hopes on “Shanghai”. Film set to release on June 8 opens with 1500 prints world over.

Sooraj set to make a come back
Director Sooraj Barjatya of “Rajshri Films” who gave you unforgettable family hit like “Hum Aap Ke Hain Koun” and “Hum Saath Saath Hain” in the past is all set to make a comeback on the big screen in a big way. Sooraj Barjatya, the young film maker has finalized a ‘Family film starring his favourite Salman Khan in the role of Prem, a mischievous but good at heart young man Sooraj admitted that after ‘Vivah’ (2006) none of their 4 films did well at the box-office. He met a number of writers in the past few years of and studied their ready scripts. But he found the real ingredients of family entertainers missing in those scripts. He could not finalise any till his conscience finally allowed him to say yes to one of those stories.
“What the viewers take back from the film is important to me. Look at the films that really worked in the recent past were those that connected aesthetically. “Bodyguard” won because of the child angle that was an important part of the film.
Raju Hirani’s “3-Idiots” is the greatest achievement in the gentre of fun and feel good cinema, which emphasis the demand for such family films. I’d made “Hum Aap Ke Hain Koun” that connected across age groups from 10-80. I must admit that it happens very rarely. A good family film is not about a family staying together but one that projects basic Indian values. “Singham” was enjoyable but it lost out on the family bit.”
Sooraj says that the era of good family entertainers is sure to come back. Films celebrating life will be back. The boy meeting girl story will continue, but the way you express it makes all the difference,” says Sooraj Barjatya and adds that this time he is making sure that his new film will have the right ingredients of entertainment coupled with family values.
It may be recalled here that Rajshri Productions in association with Kavita Barjatya (sister of Sooraj Barjatya) have produced TV serials laced with sentiments humour and family values. “Who Rehnewali Mehlon Ki” ran for 6 long years on Sahara One.
“Yahan Mein Ghar – Ghar Kheli” completed 600 episodes on Zee TV and is still going on with more twists and turns. “Jhil Mil Sitaron Ka Aangan Hoga” was the latest TV serial that started on Sahara One.
So, it seems, that Rajshri Productions continues its tryst with tradition and family values – be it on silver screen or in some TV serial.
