Sham steps up campaign in Akhnoor, seeks public support

AKHNOOR, Nov 10: Stepping up the election campaign, senior Congress leader and Minister for PHE, I & FC Sham Lal Sharma today undertook an extensive tour of various villages of Akhnoor constituency and sought people’s support in the Assembly elections.
Addressing public meetings at Noor Jagir, Jakh, Gharatal, Gosan, Dhara, Ardhan, Manoha and Kathar in Akhnoor today, Mr Sharma highlighted the development initiatives taken by him in these villages during his two tenures as MLA and sought support on the basis of his performance. He asked the people to judge his performance during his stints and ensure his victory in the elections.
Listing the development initiatives for these villages, he said setting up of Niabat at Kathar, tehsil and CD block headquarters at Mera Mandrian, construction of three bridges over river Chenab, widening of Akhnoor-Reasi road, construction of Primary Health Centre at Kathar, Gangal and Jakh; upgradation of middle schools, Gangal and Gharatal as high schools, opening of new primary schools in the uncovered villages, granting of RBA status to villages, Kathar, Gangal, Latheri, Fagal, Majoor, Manoh, Manoha, Adgan, Basiara, commissioning of Lift Irrigation Schemes at Gurah Panara, Gosan, Gangal, Payan, Meeni, Kah, construction of flood protection works at Kathar Tawi, Queer Nallah, setting up of tube-wells/dug wells at Pian, Gharatal Pail, Kathar, Noor, Dhara Ardhan, Fagal Latheri and construction of guest house at Kathar are some of the achievements registered during the past one decade with his efforts, Mr Sharma said.
Launching scathing attack on the BJP, PDP and NC, the Minister said that these parties do politics of vote bank and play with the sentiments of innocent people. He described the PDP as an opportunistic and said that party has deceived the people when it held power with the Congress. It gives only hollow slogans in the name of regionalism and is starving for the power only. BJP’s role also remained dubious in the State and party is losing its ground. The party’s credentials are known to all as it believe in disintegrating the society in the name of religion, caste, creed and colour, which is dangerous for the pluralistic society of our country.
Raising question on the tall claims of BJP in Centre regarding its development agenda, the Minister said the party has failed to give any relief to the people on any important issue even after five months in the power. He asked the people to thwart the nefarious design of such forces and show a united face and bring only Congress party into power.
