Sham pays surprise visit to water installations, orders action against absentees

JAMMU, Feb 21: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today said that Government has geared up its men and machinery to meet additional requirement of drinking water during the summer months.
“If power scenario remains satisfactory, the PHE Department will maintain uninterrupted water supply to the people across the Jammu division during the ensuing summer”, said the Minister.
Interacting with the media persons after inspecting PHE establishments at Muthi and Bakshi Nagar, the Minister said that instructions have been issued to the department to step up vigil to ensure work culture and punctuality at the grass root level. He said the flying squads have been constituted to conduct surprise checks at the PHE offices to ensure smooth supply of water and also to protect the Govt. assets, adding that these squads will keep close watch on PHE schemes even during the odd hours to get the feedback from the grass root level functionaries and PHE schemes.
Expressing satisfaction over the steps initiated by the department to ensure sanitation and renovation of water stations, the Minister said that a discernible change is quite visible in all PHE installations. He said the advisory issued by the Administrative Department after the introductory meeting has been followed strictly resulting in achieving tangible results. He directed the engineers to ensure proper cleanliness of sump tanks in a scientific way. He also asked the officers to launch a plantation drive to have a healthy environment around the water resources.
While inspecting PHE Sub-Division Bakshi Nagar, the Minister found Ajay Gupta, Assistant Engineer absent from duty. Besides, performance of AEE Siccar Khajuria was also unsatisfactory. He ordered explanation of both these officers.
Chief Engineer PHE, Ashwani Kumar Sharma also accompanied the Minister.
