JAMMU, July 21: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma laid foundation stone for construction of flood protection works in Tanda Nallah having project cost of Rs. 10. 51 crore.
The project after completion will benefit villages including Tanda, Gandharwan, Khuga, Gagian, Daskal, Bazigar Basti, Kotli, Sunail, Bhambarwan and other villages. Total land area protected will be 3920 kanals and the length of protection work will be 7524 mt.
Chief Engineer PHE, Sushil Aima, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control H. K. Jeerat, besides tehsil and block level officers were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that it is endeavour of the Government to provide better facilities to the people in every nook and corner of the State with special focus on the up-gradation of existing infrastructure. The Minister said that the completion of this vital project will ensure protection of number of villages from floods. He directed the engineers to work with utmost zeal and dedication and complete the same within stipulated time frame. He also directed to use quality material for the construction work.
The Minister said during the past one decade several PHE schemes have been developed in Akhnoor block. He said efforts are afoot to provide safe drinking water to all uncovered areas, particularly in the hilly belt of Akhnoor. He asked the people to make judicious use of water and conserve the water resources.
