AKHNOOR, Jan 1: Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma has called for social renaissance to create a healthy and harmonious society.
“In the present times when crimes are overpowering the society, need of the hour is to make collective efforts to create an environment, conducive for all to live with peace and dignity, said the Minister.
Addressing a large gathering at a function organized by the prominent citizens of Akhnoor on the occasion of New Year, the Minister said “we all should voice against the crimes against women folk and work for upholding their in the society”. He said the Indian ethos have always taught us to consider women as image of Goddess Durga and Laxmi and give them respect so we should follow the trend.
Strongly advocating for a social change to protect and promote the age old culture and rich ethos of our pluralistic society, the Minister urged upon the people to make collective efforts for social reforms. He expressed concern over degrading moral values due to the impact of westernization and stressed the need to acquaint younger generation with culture and traditions. He said the social evils like dowry, alcoholism and drug abuse are eating the vitals of the society and the need is to contain those in a collective manner.
Member Parliament, Madan Lal Sharma urged upon the State Government to abolish VAT on CSD canteen goods to facilitate the ex-servicemen and their families. He said the large number of ex-servicemen and their families have been demanding scrapping of this tax since its imposition and State Government should resolve this issue on humanitarian grounds.
