JAMMU, Jan 1: J&K’s promising all-rounder Parvez Rasool and Tripura’s skipper and former International cricketer Ajay Ratra sparkled as the Ranji Trophy Group-C match between Jammu and Kashmir and Tripura ended in a tame draw at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
While Ratra scored a power-packed unbeaten century, Rasool had a 6-wicket haul and unbeaten 27 runs to his name in the match. Now, Parvez is the leading Indian all-rounders list with 594 runs and 33 wickets in the season.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 226 runs, Ajay Ratra and Abbas Ali began the day in style by smashing series of boundaries from the word go. Ali became victim of Rasool at his individual score of 64 runs and the team’s total of 274 runs in 101.5 overs. Ratra continued his brilliance and took the teams total to a decent total of 355/8 in 125.4 overs while scoring a brilliant hundred (103*), studded with 11 fours and one six, before declaring the innings. For J&K, off-spinner Parvez Rasool was the wrecker-in-chief, who captured 6 important wickets by conceding 91 runs in 34.4 overs, while speedster Ramdayal and wrist spinner Manik Gupta claimed one wicket each.
In reply, J&K were 47/1 when bad light stopped play on the last day today. Make-shift opener Parvez Rasool was unbeaten on 27 runs, while Rohit Bhat on two. Zahoor Sofi’s was the only wicket to fall. For Tripura A Dey was the successful bowler, who claimed the lone wicket. Parvez Rasool was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant all-round performance. Both the team were awarded one point each. The team was accompanied by Bishen Singh Bedi as chief coach, Shiban Lal Trakroo as manager and Abdul Qyoom as coach.
