JAMMU, Sept 24: To review the damage and oversee the measures taken by the local administration in wake of recent floods , Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today visited various flood affected areas of Akhnoor and addressed series of public gatherings there.
The Minister distributed relief cheques amounting to Rs.18.28 lakh among the 416 flood victims at villages Rajwal, Kandyal, Chak Bhagwana, Kotha Kandyal, Chak Wazla, Bandwal, Muthi and Rakh Dhok (Jourian).
After taking stock of relief measures, the Minister interacted with the locals as well as Sarpanch and Panchs and urged upon them to extend all help and guidance to administration for accurate assessment of crops, land and property. He also asked the administration to provide the relief cheques to the affected people at their door steps.
Sham said that the Government is aware of the problems of the people who have suffered losses due to flash floods and heavy rains. He assured that every possible help will be extended for their rehabilitation. He also said that Government is keen to address the concerns of flood victims on priority and the administration is geared up for timely redressal of the grievances of affected people.
Expressing grief over the deaths and destruction in the state due to incessant rains and floods, Sham said that government has provided six months free ration to the flood affected families and every possible measure will be taken for their rehabilitation. He also appreciated the job done by the Army, Air force, civil administration, SDRF and NDRF during the disaster in the State.
Meanwhile the Minister inaugurated newly created Tehsildar office at Jourian.
The Minister also visited community health centre at Jourian and enquired about the facilities being provided to the patients.
Among others SE, Hydraulic, Rajeev Malhotra, Executive Engineers, PWD, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, sectoral officers, Sarpanchs and Panchs of the area accompanied the Minister.
