Appeals people to keep irrigation channels clean
JAMMU: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today declared open 3-day Volley Ball tournament for boys at Satowali in Suchetgarh Constituency organized by Communication & Capacity Development Unit (CCDU), Department of Public Health Engineering (PHE).
The theme of the tournament was “Save water, save earth.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister highlighted the aim of organizing the tournament. He said that the CCDU of the department organizes Melas, workshops, camps in schools and sports activities at district and constituency levels to create awareness among masses about the importance of preservation of water, to keep the water sources neat and clean and judicious use of water. He said that organizing 3-day Volley Ball tournament in the border village is also a part of that programme. He termed youth as the ambassadors of the society and said that they can spread the message more effectively.
Sham Choudhary said that the participation of youth in sports activities is keep them healthy and strong besides it also keeps them away from social evils like drug menace. He urged upon the youth to actively participate in the sports activities and asked them to bring laurels to the State by proving their mettle in National and international events.
Referring to de-silting of Ranbir and other canals of the State, the Minister said that the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Irrigation are on the job and the water would be discharged in canals on Baisakhi. He appealed people not to throw garbage in the canals so that irrigation water up to their tail end is ensured and the message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Har khet ko pani’ is fulfilled.
Earlier, the Minister was introduced with the players.
As many as 21 teams of the area are participating in the tournament.
Among others, Executive Director, CCDU, prominent citizens of the area and large number of sports lovers were present on the occasion.
