AKHNOOR, Dec 8 : Minister for Health & Family Welfare Sham Lal Sharma today said that Coalition Government was committed to empower the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) appropriately, for which the process has already been set in motion.
Addressing a large gathering of Sarpanchs and Panchs at Akhnoor today, the Minister said that PRIs are real ground level democratic institutions responsible for local area development and Government is keen to further strengthen them.
Urging Sarpanchs and Panchs to play their crucial role of supervising and monitoring the functioning of Government institutions, Sham said that Government has issued instructions to all departments to ensure active involvement of the elected representatives in formulation of development plans. He directed SDM, Akhnoor to convene monthly meeting of all sectoral officers, Sarpanchs and Panchs to ensure close coordination between administration and PRIs for achieving common objectives.
Earlier, the Minister visited Government Boys Higher Secondary School and Degree College Akhnoor to take stock of functioning and activities in the institutions with directions to undertake immediate repair and renovation work in the existing infrastructure and ensure better services and facilities are provided to the students. The minister also interacted with the staff members and students during his visit. He asked the students to take studies seriously and participate in other co-curricular activities and bring laurels to the town.
