JAMMU, Dec 8: Jammu and Kashmir suffered a humiliating defeat by one innings and 112 runs against formidable side of Himachal Pradesh in the match of Vijay Merchant Under-16 Cricket Tournament at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 318/5, Himachal Pradesh managed to score a decent total of 387 runs in the first innings, gaining a huge lead of 289 runs.
For J&K, Shubam Singh Pundir was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 5 important wickets, Aman Sharma took 2, while Shahbaz Wani, Momin Manzoor and Monis Hassan claimed one wicket each.
In reply, J&K were bundled out for a paltry total of 167 runs in their second essay, thus losing the match by one innings and 112 runs. Shubam Singh Pundir and Abhishank Bakshi slammed half-centuries. Shubam scored 55 off 98 balls with 8 boundaries, while Abhishank made magnificent 52 runs off 59 balls with the help of 12 boundaries. Momin Mansoor also scored 33 runs, studded with 4 boundaries. All other batsmen failed to cross double figure mark. Left-arm spinners MJ Daggar and CS Malhotra, who both claimed 4 wickets each in the first innings, shined once again and captured 5 wickets each in the second innings to help their side script a huge win. Daggar bowled 20 overs and captured 5 wickets by conceding 46 runs, while Malhotra claimed 5 wickets by giving away 56 runs in his 20.3 overs.
The match was officiated by Ahanker Sivasbramaniyan and Abhijeet Bhatacharya as umpires, while Ashwani Kumar and Ajay Chopra acted as scorers.
