BANIHAL, Jan 9: National Conference (NC) Ramban district president, Sajjad Shaheen today sought a high level probe into the alleged embezzlement of funds under Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocated to Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Banihal over the years.
While addressing the party office bearers, prominent local and delegates during the day-long monthly meeting of block unit of Banihal at his residence, Shaheen said the people have been complaining that funds have been withdrawn for certain works purportedly having been undertaken by various department including Agriculture Department in Ramban district under soil conservation sector but actually no work existed on ground.
He said that only an independent probe and special audit can reveal the truth with regard to alleged connivance between officials and the politicians. “The nexus will have to be exposed to restore the faith of the people in the administration”, he maintained.
Shaheen also complained about nexus at various levels in Rural Development, Social Welfare, Public Works and Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Departments saying that the facts are needed to be made public by the probe panel to be set up for the purpose.
Shaheen further said that reports have been received from various villages that electric poles and water pipes that are meant for electrification of un-electrified rural villages or for the purpose of supply of drinking water are not only being provided to blue eyed workers of the sitting MLA but are even sold to people by his political workers.
He said that the performance of the sitting Congress MLA is quite disappointing and this era will be remembered as the darkest era in the political history of Banihal constituency as people of this most backward constituency have a feeling of having been lead down and are fed up with the corrupt practices and nepotism that has evolved during the last ten years.
