Shah defers action on privilege motion against Gen Singh

Srinagar, June 25: The chairman of the Privilege Committee of Legislative Council today deferred any action on the privilege motion against former Army chief and Minister of State in Narendra Modi led Government, General (retired) V K Singh.
The chairmanship of the Privilege Committee of the Legislative Council MLC Syed Rafiq Shah told Excelsior that he is studying the privilege motion against the former Army chief and will take a decision as per law and constitution. “The Legislature is supreme and we take action as per law and constitution. The case will be dealt under merit without any political interference”, he added.
The privilege motion against Gen (retired) Singh was moved by MLCs Ajay Sadhotra, Rana and Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy in the last session of the Council, taking cognisance of his allegations during a interview in which he had claimed that Army was paying money to politicians in Jammu and Kashmir.
A meeting of Privilege Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council was held under the Chairmanship of MLC, Syed Rafiq Shah. Member of Legislative Council, Nayeem Akhtar, Dr. Shahnaz Ganai and Naresh Gupta attended the meeting and discussed the various privilege motions moved by the Legislators.
The chairman issued notice to various officers against whom the privilege motions were moved by the legislators.
Shah said that a privilege motion moved by MLC Mohammad Ashraf Mir against Srinagar Municipality Commissioner (SMC), G N Qasba, was dropped after the commissioner replied to the motion and Mir withdrew it.
The chairman said that they had issued notices to Director SKIMS, Soura, PDD Engineer Ali Mohammad Mir, DFO Kralpora division against whom privilege motions were moved by MLC Aga Syed Rizvi, MLC Bashir Ahmad Veeri and MLC Dr Shehnaz Ganai.
The chairman said that threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to the committee. The Committee discussed eight different cases in the meeting and decided that the scrutiny of the cases would start in next meeting.
Among others, officers and officials of Council Secretariat were also attended the meeting.
