Shah, associates booked

Srinagar, May 29: Senior leader of Hurriyat Conference and chairman Democratic Freedom Party, Shabir Ahmad Shah, was today booked under the Unlawful Activities Act after Pakistani flags appeared in his rally in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The case was filed against Shah and others, hours after the DFP chairman led a protest rally in the main town, Anantnag after the congregational Friday prayers.
A case (FIR No. 147/2015, under Sections 341, 121, 147, 120-B RPC and 13 ULA) has been registered against him.
A group of youth inside the rally were seen waving Pakistani flags at Lal Chowk in Anantnag district and raising pro-Pakistani slogans.
Soon after the rally, police immediately took Shabir Shah into custody at Khanabal.
They also took Moulana Tari and Molvi Bashir into custody. However, all the three were released later in the evening.
Last month on April 17, Masrat Alam was arrested from his residence at Zaindar Mohalla in Srinagar after he was booked for sedition charges for raising pro-Pakistan slogans during a rally on April 15 at Hyderpora, Srinagar on the arrival of Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani from New Delhi. Other leaders who were charged for sedition include Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Peer Saifullah, Ayaz Akbar and Mehraj-ul-Din Kalwal. However, they were not arrested.
Police also took chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Mohammad Yasin Malik and several of his supporters into custody this afternoon from Maisuma area of Srinagar after his Jail Bharo protest.
The JKLF is protesting against what it says denying of political space to it for carrying out political activities. Malik said that their cadres are being arrested and lashed out at Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s remarks of Goli say nahi Boli say.
In the meantime, Police and CRPF charged batons and fired few teargas shells to disperse a protest march in the Old area here.
Scores of youth emerged from the historic Jamia Masjid, Nowhatta after the Friday prayers and started protests.
Police used batons and lobbed tear smoke as these protesters pelted stones on them.
