JAMMU, Aug 31: Minister for Health, Shabir Ahmed Khan flagged off three Mobile Medical Units from the Directorate of Health Jammu today. This ambitious health care initiative envisaged under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) caters to primary preventive, curative, promotive and referral health needs of the people in the un-served remote areas at their doorsteps.
Director Health Services B. S. Pathania, Mission Director NRHM Yash Pal Sharma, Director Family Welfare Dr. Baldev Raj Sharma, senior officers of the department and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Khan informed that in the initial phase three mobile units have been sent to Rajouri, Udhampur and Doda and very soon the facility will be extended to other districts also. He said that these fully equipped units developed at a cost of Rs 27 lakh each will provide medicare and other diagnostic facilities to the people of the remote areas at their doorsteps.
The Minister exhorted that a liberal funding from the Central Government and able guidance of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has helped to revamp the health services in the State, adding that these mobile units are a step ahead towards strengthening the primary health care services. He said there has been due recognition of the hard work and collaborative efforts of the department at the national fora.
Mr Khan said that maintenance and upkeep of the infrastructure and other assets created in the health sector are our responsibility and directed the concerned officers to ensure that these are properly managed. He laid thrust on optimal use of funds and resources and said that department has to be more accountable to ascertain that set targets are achieved.
He stressed the need to further improve and streamline the functioning of the department and said that all efforts are being made to resolve the grievances of the staff but at the same time he maintained that the expectations of the Government and the people have to be fulfilled with ardor and honesty. He said that patients’ trust and belief in the profession should be maintained and strengthened by the doctors with their dedicated efforts. He asked for ensuring punctuality of staff in the offices and health centers.
