SFI Secretary sees medal hopes in short distance swimmers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM :  India’s short distance  swimmers can win medals in international competitions like  Olympics if their talent are exploited properly, Swimming Federation of India (SFI) General Secretary Kamalesh  Nanavati has said.
‘Indian short distance swimmers have good potential in winning medals in international events like Olympics, if their talents were tapped well, with providing better training under foreign coaches and good technical knowledge,’ Mr Nanavati, who is here in connection with the ongoing 35th National Games, which is under progressing, told UNI in a face to face chat.    As far as the physical condition of Indian swimmers were concerned, winning of a gold in Olympics was not so easy thing, but in short distance competitions like 50 m and 100 m there were enough chances to annex gold, he claimed.    ‘I am confident that, in the 2020 Olympics, Indian swimmers would be in the victory stand. We have already initiatives to achieve the goal,’ said the confident SFI General Secretary.    Pointing out that the standard of Indian swimming had considerably improved and the swimmers were doing well, he said the ongoing aquatic events in the 35th National games itself  was an solid proof as almost all the events in the games, new records were created by new upcoming talents in water sports.
