Several steps initiated to regulate traffic: Kichloo

JAMMU, Apr 4: Minister of State for Home Sajad Ahmad Kichloo today informed the Legislative Assembly that traffic regulation in the twin districts of Baramulla and Kupwara which includes Sopore town as well is being supervised by Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic Baramulla/Kupwara and is assisted by one inspector, 6 Sub Inspectors/Assistant Sub-Inspectors and 33 others.
Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice by Mohammad Ashraf Ganai said that the Traffic Department, in order to regulate and ensure smooth flow of traffic has taken a series of steps like launching of special drive against traffic rules violators, rash and negligent driving. Overloading and booking these habitual traffic violators, under law.
Mr Kichloo said that some of the significant steps taken to regulate the traffic in the area included imposition of fines on traffic rules, violators, cancellation of driving licenses of erring drivers, action against over loading, computerization of records for identifying habitual violators and taking of stringent action against them. Besides, he said the authorities have also stepped up awareness campaign for the general masses about the traffic rules.
