PHE workers hold protest, demand regularization

JAMMU, Apr 4: The PHE workers today held a massive protest demonstration in the office premises of Chief Engineer, PHE Department, Jammu, against the PHE administration and the State Government, for their failure to regularize the wages of downtrodden workers of the department.
The protest, which was held under the leadership of Thakur Bakshi Singh, provincial president, PHE Workers Welfare Association, Jammu Province, was largely attended by field employees and workers of PHE.
The workers raising slogans against the PHE administration were demanding their regularization after completion of five years of regular service, disbursement of backlog wages, implementation of enhanced wages of Rs 150, Rs 175 and Rs 225 to the unskilled, ITI semi-skilled and skilled workers, respectively, as per SRO-3, introduction of ‘Welfare Fund Scheme’ for the employees of PHE and allotting proper designation as per their present assignment and qualification.
The employees also stressed hard for convening of DPC meeting against the vacant posts so that they may be promoted for they which deserve.
While addressing to the employees, Bakshi Singh said that the department has playing with the sentiments and future of the young daily wagers, who have contributed valuable period of their lives to the department.
Subhash Verma, provincial general secretary of the Association strongly condemned the Government Circular No 09-GAD dated March 3, 2013 relating to engagement or discontinuation of daily rates workers engaged after 1994. He stressed to revoke the said circular without any delay to avoid any type of confrontation and warned the Government to resolve other pending issues of the employees by April 14 or otherwise ready to face the 2-day dharna planned to be held on April 15 and 16.
