Several retd bureaucrats try luck, fail to register berth in Assembly

JAMMU, Dec 23: Several retired bureaucrats including doctors tried their luck in the Jammu and Kashmir elections, while some managed to register berth in the Assembly and others lost after putting up stiff fight.
Retired Chief Secretary and PDP candidate from Banihal constituency Bashir Ahmed Runyal claimed 13,322 votes and remained at number 2, while as Congress candidate Vikar Rassol Wani claimed the top slot by securing 17,671 votes.
NC candidate from Akhnoor constituency Dr Gafur Ahmed secured fifth position from Akhnoor constituency by securing 859 votes only. In this constituency, Rajeev Sharma of BJP and Sham Lal Sharma of Congress bagged first and second positions by securing 41,901 and 32,521 votes respectively.
Dentist turned politician and BJP candidate from Amirakadal constituency remained at number 3 by securing 1,359 votes, while as PDP’s Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari who bagged 11,726 votes claimed first rank and NC candidate Nasir Aslam Wani secured 6,385 votes and remained at number 2.
Retired Chief Secretary and PDP candidate from Bhaderwah constituency Sheikh Mehboob Iqbal claimed third rank by securing 16,673 votes against BJP’s Daleep Singh and Congress candidate Mohammad Sharief Niaz, who remained at first and second positions by securing 25,953 and 24,457 votes respectively.
Aijaz Ali Khan, retired IGP Crime Srinagar and PDP candidate from Uri constituency successfully claimed 18,567 votes and remained at second position against NC’s Mohammad Shafi who bagged 24,359 votes and claimed first rank.
Retired SSP and Independent candidate from Suchetgarh constituency Bhupinder Singh claimed only 628 votes and remained at number 5. In this constituency, the top two contenders were BJP’s Sham Choudhary and NC’s Tejinder Singh Toni, who claimed 19,971 and 10,554 votes respectively.
Retired Chief Secretary, sitting MLC and Independent candidate from RS Pura constituency BR Kundal claimed 11,140 votes and remained at third position, while as BJP candidate Dr Gagan Bhagat and PDP candidate Bushan Lal secured 25,696 and 12,086 votes respectively.
Faqir Chand Bhagat, Retired DC and PDP candidate from Bishnah constituency secured third position by securing 8,112 votes against NC’s Dr Kamal Arora and BJP’s Ashwani Sharma, who secured 29,830 and 26,394 votes and grabbed first and second positions respectively.
Saraf Singh, independent candidate from Reasi constituency, who had taken voluntary retired from the post of Financial Advisor-cum-CEO remained at number 2 by securing 20,130 against BJP’s Ajay Nanda, who secured 22,017 votes and claimed top rank.
Retired Additional DC, sitting MLA and Independent candidate from Kathua constituency Charanjit Singh Jasrotia bagged 13,242 votes and remained at number 3, while as BJP candidate Rajiv Jasrotia and BSP candidate Som Raj Majotra bagged first and second positions by securing 35,670 and 28,864 votes respectively.
Retired tehsildar and BJP candidate from Bani constituency Jeewan Lal claimed top position by securing 12,841 votes, while as Ghulam Haider Malik of NC and Independent candidate Master Lal Chand bagged 8,429 and 5,012 votes respectively.
Dr Krishan Lal Bhagat, BJP candidate from Chhamb constituency remained at top position by securing 36,033 votes. He defeated Tara Chand, DyCM and Congress candidate. Chand secured 21,243 votes.
BJP candidate from Samba constituency Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal defeated sitting MLA and NPP candidate Yash Paul Kundal and claimed top rank by securing 34,075 votes. Kundal bagged 11,957 votes.
Professor in History Department at Jammu University and BJP candidate from Billawar constituency Dr Nirmal Singh secured 43,447 and claimed top rank by defeating Congress candidate Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, who claimed 21,243 votes.
