Several parties seek probe, action against guilty

JAMMU, July 13: Congress, National Conference, J&K National Panthers Party and even  the BJP have taken very serious note of the multi-crore Bullet Proof jackets/ headgears scam in the J&K Police Department  and demanded high level inquiry into the matter.
Speaker J&K  Legislative Assembly and former DyCM, Dr Nirmal Singh said there should be a proper investigation into the matter as the issue pertains to the security and safety of the Police and para-military personnel. The scam will lower the morale of the jawans involved in anti-militancy operations.”
“Whosoever is responsible, should  be exposed. There must be a thorough investigation into the whole deal and role of officials involved. The guilty persons should be punished  and there should be no scope of compromise on security related issues,” Dr Singh maintained.
Pradesh Congress Committee president  and former Minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir, while strongly reacting to the report appeared in Daily Excelsior on July 12 with regard to multi- crore  bullet proof scam in PHQ and swindling of money and procurement of sub-stranded bullet proof jackets  and headgears purchased during last two years, said Congress party has taken very serious notice of the issue. The safety and security of the Police personnel fighting militancy cannot be compromised. This is ‘highest’ or you can say the ‘lowest level of corruption’.
“During last three years, several other scams have  taken place in J&K State and Governor NN Vohra must take cognizance of the matter and order   an impartial inquiry, fix responsibility, of the people involved in this scam as well as the other scams like DDUVY, Power projects, J&K Bank  etc which took place under PDP-BJP regime. Vohra must ensure that culprits are punished and safety and security of the police officers and jawans is ensured who play, with their lives while taking part in various anti-militancy operations,” Mir maintained.
Senior Congress leader and former Minister Sham Lal Sharma said this issue needs immediate attention of the Governor NN Vohra who is very upright, honest  and is known as an efficient  Administrator.
“This is very serious issue. Some people seems to have compromised the security and safety of the men in ‘Khaki’ whether at junior or at senior level working in the State. The law enforcing agencies  have been put into the dock. The security of the jawans and officers fighting militancy can not be compromised and Governor must hold high level probe into the matter. There is no scope of any type of leniency towards the people involved in the scam, Sharma added.
National Conference general secretary and former Minister, Ali Mohd Sagar while reacting to the reports regarding multi-crore bullet proof  vests/ headgears/ vehicles scam in the J&K Police Headquarters, said that issue is of very serious nature. It has totally exposed the working of the previous PDP-BJP Govt.  The Governor’s Administration must hold a probe into the matter and fix responsibility on the people involved in the purchases/ deals. The people giving benefit to the particular firm must be exposed. He said they have compromised the security of the jawans and need severe punishment.
JKNPP chairman and former Minister Harshdev Singh while reacting to the Excelsior report  demanded high level impartial inquiry into the multi-core bullet proof scam in the Police Headquarters  and  said that it is criminal act to compromise on the security of the Police officers and jawans.
The guilty officers involved in the deal must be exposed, and an FIR be registered against them. He said the corruption has reached to such a lowest level that  even the people involved in purchases or approval of equipment compromised with the security and safety of their own men. He referred to the incident in Kashmir in which a bullet pierced through headgear of a security man in Kashmir few days back as reported in the media. He demanded severest punishment  for the culprits and high level probe by the Governor’s Administration.
