Several injured in security force action on demonstrators in Shopian

SRINAGAR: Several persons were injured when security forces burst teargas shells and fired pellets to disperse demonstrators in Shopian, where two Jaishe-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants were killed in an encounter on Saturday.

Business and other activities were also paralysed in Shopian and other areas in protest against the militants’ killing. Transport was also off the road.

Immediately after news spread about the encounter, people, mostly youths hit the streets at different places in Shopian in south Kashmir. Security forces and State police personnel deployed in the area immediately swung into action and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the demonstrators.

However, when the demonstrators refused to disperse, security forces burst teargas shells and also fired pellets, official sources said adding several persons were injured in the security force action. (AGENCIES)
