SRINAGAR, Nov 16: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar organized Convocation-2012 at SKICC today. As many as 6 Doctorate, 25 Post Graduate Degrees, 2 M. Phil and 346 B. Tech candidates were awarded with the Degrees and Gold Medals.
Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik, Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir, Padamshree Dr. Sri Kumar Banerjee, the Chairman Board of Governors, Wajahat Habibullah and the Director, NIT, Prof. Rajat Gupta were the dignitaries present on the occasion who awarded the meritorious students with Degrees and Gold Medals.
Earlier, Wajahat Habibullah declared the convocation open.
Director NIT presented report on the activities of the Institute.
Degree holders took the pledge on this noble occasion to discharge their duties honestly as an engineer and a scientist. The oath ceremony was conducted by Registrar, NIT, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Mir. Secretary, Higher Education, Gazanfar Hussain was also present on the occasion.
Vice Chancellors of Kashmir University, Central University, Islamic University of Science and Technology, intellectuals, scholars and students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the function, Minister for Higher Education said that NIT Srinagar is the premier institution of the State and one of the best institutes of Northern India as it has contributed significantly for transformation of society. He said NIT has achieved several milestones in the field of technology.
Referring to the expansion programme of NIT, the Minister said that State Government is ready to support in all respects for its expansion so that enrolment of students could be increased and new courses could be introduced as per requirement of the job market.
Later, speaking on the sidelines of the function, Mr. Malik said that several initiatives have been taken to redesign job oriented courses including engineering and other scientific fields.
The dignitaries also released student magazine “Magnit-2012″and a souvenir “Inspire”.
