JAMMU, Feb 7: A delegation of the J&K Handicapped Association, Srinagar, led by Abdul Rashid Bhat, President of the Association, called on Governor N. N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
The delegation demanded urgent enforcement of the “Persons with Disability Act, 2016”; ensuring that the State Trust Ordinance becomes a law of the State; establishment of provincial Directorates for the Welfare of Handicapped at Srinagar and Jammu; provision of office accommodation for organisations of the Handicapped at Jammu and Srinagar; conducting district level census of the disabled persons and a special employment drive for educated handicapped; establishment of CRC for Jammu; urgent implementation of decisions taken in meetings by the Governor and the Chief Minister regarding disabled people and on-ground implementation of all directions issued by the Social Welfare Department for the welfare of the handicapped.
Governor observed that he would have an early meeting with Sajjad Gani Lone, Social Welfare Minister, for securing urgent resolution of all issues raised by the delegation.
A delegation of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community led by Gohar Hafeez Fani met Governor and apprised him about the role being played by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to promote peace and harmony all over the world and invited him for the 5th Peace Symposium, one of the flagship events of the Community around the world, which will be held at Jammu on 18th February to deliberate on “Justice in an Unjust World”.
The delegation presented several books to Governor which included: “Revelation Rationality-Knowledge and Truth” written by Mirza Tahir Ahmad; “World Crisis and the Pathway to Peace” by Mirza Masroor Ahmad; “The Philosophy of the Teachings of Islam” by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad; and “Life of Muhammad” by Mirza Bashir-u-din Mahmood.
Governor urged the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to continue their sustained endeavours in spreading the message of peace and harmony to all individuals and communities in J&K.
A delegation of Durga Nagar Welfare Committee, led by its President Roshan Lal Raina requested Governor to intervene in solving their various issues including deploying public transport for their area which has been stopped since last 2 years; provision of adequate medical, water and power supplies; enhancement in relief amount; early start of civil works including drainage and blacktopping and completion of Community Hall; two 100-KV transformers for the area; provision of accommodation to migrants serving in Valley under Prime Minister’s Package; provision of financial assistance to patients who are economically weak.
Governor said that Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Hemant Kumar Sharma, will be asked to personally review all the difficulties raised by the delegation and discuss the same with him. He assured support for promoting the welfare of Durga Nagar residents.
An 11 member team of Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM led by Khushboo Mattoo, Programming Head, J&K also met Governor and apprised him about the brand positioning and the programming content of the Radio Mirchi.
Governor complimented the Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM team for successful completion of three months of operation in Jammu. He observed that the radio is a time tested medium for spreading awareness among people living in the towns as well as those in remote and difficult areas.
He advised the Radio Mirchi team to make their listeners, most of whom are young, aware of all the flagship Central Government schemes and also sensitise the younger generation about the varied serious social problems facing the communities in J&K, particularly the fast spreading drug problem and its evil effects, need for keeping all public places neat and clean, adhering to traffic laws etc.
