Several challaned for unhygienic conditions

JAMMU, May 11: Several food establishments were challaned for unhygienic conditions.
A team of Food Safety led by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Jammu conducted inspection of around 27 food establishments at Rehari, Sarwal and Gandhi Nagar, in which 11 of them were challaned for unhygienic conditions and 6 samples including 2 samples of ice cream, 2 samples of ladoos and 2 samples of namkeen were lifted for analysis.
The food establishments which were challaned and from where samples were lifted include Punjabi Brother Rehari Chungi, Pardhan Snacks, Hunger Strikes, Manohar Bakery and Food Point, Kala Hot n Chill Dhaba, Pardhan Sweet Shop New Plot, Bachan Fruit Shop, Mehra Fruit Shop and Pargal Cheese Corner Gole Market Gandhi Nagar.
The team also comprised of Food Safety Officers including Daleep Singh, Ajay Khajuria and Hans Raj.
Meanwhile, awareness-cum-inspection was conducted at Fruit Mandi Narwal, during which various fruit establishments and fruit vendors were inspected and different samples of fruits such as mangos, papaya, musk melon and bananas were lifted and sent to laboratory for analysis.
Awareness camp was also organized for fruit vendors so as to make them aware about artificial ripening and asked only to use ethylene gas ranging from 10 to 100 ppm in concentration depending upon crop to crop as per Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA).
They were also asked not to use calcium carbide and liquid ethylene or oxytocin for ripening of fruits.
They were also asked to maintain hygiene at all levels.
The inspection and camp was also attended by Secretary APMC Narwal Jammu and team from Department of Horticulture.
