Seven drug peddlers arrested

Srinagar, Nov 30: Police today said it have arrested seven drug peddlers in Kupwara, Anantnag and Baramulla districts of Kashmir and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances.
A police spokesman said five notorious drug peddlers were arrested by police in Kupwara district from different places and recovered 2 kilograms charas and bottles of liquor from their possession. The arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Ghulam Rasool Wani, Nazir Ahmad Ganie, Abdul Rashid Ganie, Bilal Ahmad Mir and Tariq Ahmad Dar.
The spokesman said that police in Ashmuqam area of Anantnag district received information regarding presence of narcotic substances in the house of Mohammad Aqib Itoo. “Acting on this information, a police party raided the house. During the search of the house, 45 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered,” he said.
The accused was arrested on the spot and a case under FIR number 48/2017 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered against him and investigation was taken up, the spokesman said. He said that a checkpoint was laid by police after receiving some inputs regarding the drug peddler at Dandoosa Crossing in Sopore area of Baramulla district.
“During checking, police apprehended one person namely Mehraj-ud-din Mir and on checking, 35 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from his possession.  The contraband substance was seized and subsequently a case FIR number 72/2017 under Section 8/22 NDPS Act was registered. The investigation of the matter was taken up,” he said.
