KATHUA, Oct 22: Jammu and Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) unit Kathua organized a function in memory of those 50000 martyrs of 1947 from PoK who sacrificed their lives at the hands of tribals supported by Pakistan regular army and saved this part of Jammu and Kashmir.
Large number of DPs from all the adjoining areas participated in the function and paid rich tributes to the martyrs who are forgotten and have been given no place in history.
While speaking to the media persons, Bushan Sharma, president, JKSAC Kathua said that this day i.e October 22, 1947 is an unforgettable as well as a Black day in the history when Hindus from PoK were thrown out forcibly by Tribals who slaughtered 50,000 people. The women were raped , abducted and ravished. The properties worth millions and millions of rupees were looted and destroyed. He termed it as the worst kind of genocide which has never been seen in the modern history of the world.
He said the sacrifices delayed the advances of Tribals and saved Jammu and Kashmir but unfortunately their sacrifices went unnoticed by all the previous dispensations. They were not given justice and despite of their persistent struggle since 1967, no serious measures were taken by any dispensation with the result that they are still waiting for their reasonable and adequate rehabilitation.
Sharma reiterated that DPs are thankful to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for providing Rs 5.5 lakh to each family and also extending this benefit to 5300 families settled outside the State. Though this relief has provided some balm on the bleeding wounds of DPs, the seven decade old problem can’t be considered a fully resolved until and unless adequate compensation of their left out properties is paid and their wards are given reservation in jobs and technical institutions.
He further stressed upon the incumbent Government to take necessary measures for disbursement issue which is being delayed and payment has not been made to thousands of DPs for last four months and the Government is sleeping over the matter despite several reminders. He in an appeal to Governor Satya Pal Malik to intervene in the matter and stressed upon MHA for early disbursement of relief which would be completed by the end of this financial year.
He also made an appeal to PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister, Amit Shah to once again show their strong will and settle the long pending legitimate issue of DPs as per JPC recommendations.
