Series of activities mark beginning of 32nd National Road Safety Month

JAMMU, Jan 18: Series of activities were held across Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to mark the beginning of National Road Safety Month.
The day witnessed inaugural functions, walkathons and awareness rallies organized by respective district administrations.
JAMMU: The 32nd National Road Safety Month was today inaugurated by Transport Commissioner, J&K Pardeep Kumar, with the flagging off a Walkathon-cum-Awareness Rally, here at Gulshan Ground.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Jammu, Shiv Kumar Sharma was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Transport Commissioner flagged off a Walkathon (walk for awareness) under the theme “Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha” in which students from different educational institutions, drivers, NSS/NCC volunteers, officers and officials of MVD participated.
The Road Safety Walkathon started from Gulshan Ground, and culminated at Green Field, covering a distance of around two kilometers.
Earlier, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, Dhananter Singh presented the welcome address.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Satish Kumar Sharma, Additional Transport Commissioner, J&K, Raman Kesar, Additional Secretary, Road Safety Council, Ramesh Bhat, Joint Transport Commissioner, J&K, Gurmukh Singh, Additional SP Traffic, Pardeep Singh Gouria,  ARTOs, staff of the MVD, besides, representatives of all Auto Mobile Dealer Association, Presidents of Passenger Services Groups, Driving School Association also attended the programme.
SAMBA: Deputy Commissioner, Rohit Khajuria along with Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajesh Sharma inaugurated month long Road Safety awareness programme from Degree College Samba. Deputy Commissioner and SSP flagged off a Walkathon, in which Degree College students, NCC cadets  and other general public from both private and Government institutions participated. Additional Deputy Commissioner Suram Chand, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Jitender Mishra, Assistant Road Transport Officer, Rehana Tabassum besides other district officers, principal and staff of GDC and general public in large numbers were present on the occasion.
DODA: Motor Vehicle Department Doda organised a Health check-up camp for drivers on the first day of the Road Safety Month campaign. ADDC Surat Singh inaugurated campaign at Doda town. Later, the Health Department conducted the health check up of the Drivers including Blood pressure and sugar tests, eye check up besides, covid tests. Among others present at the program were Assistant Road Transport Officer, Er Kuldeep Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Yaqoob Mir, ADMO, BMO Ghat, besides other officials of the health and MVD department.
REASI: Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rajinder Kumar Sharma,   flagged off a rally to mark the beginning of 32nd National Road Safety Month. The event was organised by the Motor Vehicle Department Reasi. Students from different government and private schools participated in the awareness rally and highlighted the causes of road accidents and preventive measures. Chief Education Officer, Mushtaq Ahmed;  Chief Horticulture Officer, Mukesh Sharma; Chief Agriculture Officer, Ravinder Thaploo;  Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Rajesh Gupta; Teachers from different Schools were also present.
RAMBAN: DC Nazim Zai Khan inaugurates the 32nd National Road Safety Month by flagging off a bikers rally from District Administrative Complex, Ramban. As many as 40 Bikers participated in the rally which passed through Maitra, main Bazar of Ramban town and culminated at conference hall Ramban. ADC, Harbans Lal, ACD, Zameer Ahmed Rishu, ARTO, Shafqat Majeed, officers of police and civil administration besides representatives of different transport unions present were on the occasion.
UDHAMPUR: An animation series of Mascot (Road King) was released by Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla to mark the launch of the road safety campaign. The DDC announced adaptation of Road King as official Mascot of Road Safety for District Udhampur, while a digital calendar of ARTO office was also released at the event.
KISHTWAR: DDC Ashok Sharma and SSP Dr Harmeet Singh Mehta  flagged off a Motor Rally from District Headquarter on the theme ‘Sadak Suraksha Jeewan Raksha’. Members of District Road Safety Committee Kishtwar, officials of MVD, Drivers, Driving Schools and other members from transport unions, police fraternity and civil administration were also present on the occasion.
POONCH: Motor Vehicle Department Poonch in collaboration with other stakeholders organised a motor bike rally to mark the beginning of National Road Safety Month 2021. The Rally started from DC Office and culminated at Sports Stadium. Earlier, the walk for safety was flagged off by DDC Rahul Yadav. Others present on the occasion were Senior Superintendent of Police, Ramesh Kumar Angral, Assistant Regional Transport Officer,  Jugal Kishore Sharma, Motor Vehicle Inspector Zahoor Ahmed Tantary and officers of different departments.
SRINAGAR: To build awareness about road safety and reduce road accidents, a month-long 32nd National Road Safety, 2021 awareness drive themed ‘Sadak Surakhsha Jeevan Raksha’ was launched across all the districts of Kashmir. The month long programme that commenced today is scheduled to culminate on February 17.
On the occasion, IGP Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar flagged off a Bike Rally on Road Safety Awareness from Traffic Police Office Polo View Srinagar, which passed through various areas and culminated back at Polo View. The rally was organised by Traffic Police City Srinagar.
Among others, SSP Srinagar, Dr Haseeb Mughal, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, Javid Ahmad Koul, SP East Sheema Nabi Qasba, ASP Traffic City Dr Zahoor Ahmad, DySP Traffic City West Ghulam Hassan, DySP Traffic City North, Imtiyaz Ahmad and DySP Traffic City South Sheikh Aadil besides other officers and officials from Traffic City Srinagar and District Police Srinagar attended the inaugural function.
BUDGAM: DDC Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza, who is also Chairman, District Regional Transport Authority today kick started a month long road safety programme during an impressive ceremony here. A rally participated by drivers, pllion riders, conductors and large gathering of common people was taken out from District Headquarters to ARTO office. Among others, SSP Budgam, Amod Ashok Nagpure, CMO, Dr Tajamul Hussain, ARTO were present.
GANDERBAL:  DC Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal flagged off awareness rally from Mini Secretariat Ganderbal. Among others, SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, ADC Ganderbal, Farooq Ahmed Baba, President Municipal Council Ganderbal and ARTO Ganderbal were present on the occasion.
PULWAMA: DDC Pulwama, Dr Raghav Langer inaugurated Road Safety Month by flagging off a Car Rally at the new bus stand Pulwama. Among others, ARTO Pulwama, EO Municipal Council Pulwama, Inspectors of the Motor Vehicle Department and drivers besides other people were present on the occasion.
BARAMULLA: DC Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo today flagged off a rally of vehicles from Dak Bungalow to kick-start the month long Road safety programme. Assistant Regional Transport Officer Baramulla was also present on the occation.
BANDIPORA:  DC Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad inaugurated the Road Safety Month by flagging off a car rally from Mini Secretariat to Bandipora Town Square, here. ARTO Bandipora Mohammad Suhaib, Deputy Education Officer Bandipora, GM Sheikh and other district officers were present on the occasion.
KULGAM:  DC Kulgam, Showkat Aijaz Bhat inaugurated a rally of students from ARTO Office Kulgam to Chattabal crossing on the occasion of celebration of National Road Safety Month 2021. ARTO Additional SP, DySP HQ, CEO, members from civil society, NGO, transport union etc were present on the occasion.
KUPWARA: ADC Kupwara, Nazir Ahmad Lone flagged off a Vehicle Rally to observe Road Safety Month. An awareness programme about Road Safety was organized by the Motor Vehicles Department Kupwara.
SHOPIAN: To stimulate community involvement in promoting National road safety awareness and to disseminate information about traffic rules Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Shopian, Muzam Ali flagged off a transport rally from here to celebrate the Road Safety Month. Among others, the programme was attended by District Social Welfare Officer, Assistant Director Handloom and other officers/officials of different departments.
KARGIL: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan kick started the Month-long activities in connection with the 32nd Road Safety Month in Kargil at Council Secretariat.
Executive Councilor for Works Mubarak Shah Nagvi, Executive Councillor for Tourism Er Phunsog Tashi, Executive Councillor for Health Mohammad Ali Chandan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil Tsering Motup, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kargil Tsering Motup, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Kargil Iftikhar Talib Choudhary, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Kargil Khadim Hussain, district officers besides the representatives of various transport unions were present on the occasion.
Feroz Khan flagged off a vehicle rally from the Council Secretariat Kargil which culminated at Tourist Facilitation Center (TFC), Kargil.
Meanwhile, the CEC along with other dignitaries felicitated the officers of Ladakh Police, Traffic Police besides the representative of various transport unions by presenting them mementoes for their noteworthy services during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, elections and other activities.
