JAMMU, Mar 21: A regional sensitization workshop on rare diseases titled “Care for Rare: Together We Win” was conducted today at SMGS Hospital, Jammu.
The workshop was organized by PG Institute of Medical Education and Research Chandigarh in collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics, SMGS Hospital, GMC Jammu.
The keynote address was delivered by the chief guest Prof Ashutosh Gupta, Principal & Dean GMC Jammu, highlighting the growing importance of early diagnosis and management of rare diseases in India.
Dr Harbaksh Singh, Chief Medical Officer Jammu, was the guest of honour & Dr Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital, was the special guest on this occasion.
The event commenced with the introductory address delivered by Prof Sanjeev K Digra, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, GMC Jammu. He emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts, policy support, and continued sensitization to improve outcomes for patients with rare diseases.
The scientific sessions began with an insightful talk on the aims and scope of the National Policy for Rare Diseases (NPRD) by Dr Babita Prasad from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi. This was followed by an engaging lecture by Prof Inusha Panigrahi, Department of Genetics, PGIMER Chandigarh.

A key highlight of the workshop was the panel discussion on “Strategies for Improving Access to Therapy for Rare Diseases”, moderated by Dr Pooja Bharti. The panel comprised of Dr Rakesh Kumar, Dr Inusha Panigrahi & Dr Babita Prasad.
The event witnessed participation from faculty members, Senior Residents, Postgraduate students, Nurses and other Paramedical staff. Senior Pediatricians from Jammu, including Dr Romesh Khajuria; Dr S S Slathia, Dr Ravinder Gupta, Prof Ashu Jamwal, Prof Sunil Dutt Sharma, Prof Parvinder Kumar, Dr Deepak Kumar, Dr Anuj Bhatti, Dr Koushal Khajuria, Dr Anumodan Gupta, Dr Sanjana Sharma, Dr Pallavi Sharma, Dr Priyanka Sharma, Dr Rajneesh Kumar, Dr Raman Sharma, Dr Jaspreet Singh, Dr Manoj Sharma were present in the event.
The program was coordinated by Dr Mousin Mustafa Batt and Dr Sharvil Dhar. The proceedings were conducted by Dr Vidushi Bhat & Dr Mansi Jasrotia.
