Senior Citizens Society expresses concern over shortage of doctors

JAMMU, Mar 5: J&K Senior Citizens Welfare Society has expressed grave concern over the shortage of doctors in Wakura block of Ganderbal district of Kashmir valley.
In an emergency meeting today the chairman of the Society, Mir Ghulam Rasool Butwani has said that transfer of doctors from the block by the authorities of Health Department without posting the substitutes in their place has brought health services to grinding halt in the tehsil as the patients visiting the hospitals for treatment are facing problems due to shortage of doctors in various streams like medicine, surgery, Pediatric, Gynecology, Ortho etc.
The meeting said though the issue was taken up with the concerned authorities’ number of times but to no avail resulting into lot of public resentment in the area against the Department. The Society in an appeal to Health and Medical Education Minister, Bali Bhagat and Commissioner Secretary of the Department, Dr Pawan Kotwal has urged them to look into the problem immediately and order posting of doctors in various health centers of the tehsil.
The meeting expressed the hope that the Government will act by its word and shift the campus of Central University to Ganderbal as early as possible as was announced by it recently. It said though the decision of shifting the campus to Ganderbal was a belated decision as the huge amount of State exchequer has been spent in paying rent to the private buildings were the campus was run out side said the credit goes to the people who raised the voice about the same.
The meeting was attended by Abdul Razak Dar, Mohammed Sultan Bhat, Parvez Ahmed and others.
