Seminar on ‘Technical Terminology of Agriculture in Dogri’ begins

JAMMU, Jan 18: Two-day seminar on ‘Use of Technical Terminology of Agriculture in Dogri’, organized by SKUAST-Jammu, began here today at Chatha campus.
The seminar is being sponsored by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Human Resource Development, (Department of Higher Education) Government of India, New Delhi. The seminar is being organized in context with process of compilation of Fundamental Glossary of Agriculture in Dogri. Prof P K Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, in his inaugural address, said that it was very important to motivate the farmers in local language because it gives emotional touch to them. He also emphasized that local languages usually play vital role in creating more innovative ideas.
Dr D.P Abrol, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, explained that to make understand technical terms of agriculture in Dogri language, such programmes are very important.
Dr Shailender Singh, Assistant Director from the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, MHRD, informed that the Commission was in the process of finalizing Fundamental Glossary of Agriculture in English-Hindi-Dogri to facilitate agricultural scientists and farmers, besides Dogri speaking masses of the State fulfilling the long pending public demand. He informed the gathering that about 2700 words have been coined and translated in Dogri.
Seminar comprised of the lectures by eminent experts and the interactive sessions.
