Seminar on ‘Role of ICT for Sustainable Development’ held

UDHAMPUR, Nov 25: One day Inter-College seminar on Role of Information & Communication Technology for Sustainable Development was organized by the Science Club of GCW Udhampur in collaboration with J&K State Council for Science and Technology, District Udhampur.
Dr. Bhavnaish Chand, convener of the seminar presented keynote address and said that ICT has revolutionized the development process by influencing its manifold dimensions be it economic, social, political, cultural, enviromental, ethical, behavioural etc.
Earlier, the seminar started with the lighting of traditional lamp by the Principal of the College Prof KS Koushal and other dignitaries.
In his presidential address he said that with the rapid growth of ICT sector in India, there is an important demand from the research community and policy makers for better data to ensure that research findings are representative for the entire country in order to inform policy makers about ICT developments and its impact.
Prof. Munish Gulati (Principal Shivalik College of Education Udhampur), Prof. Suresh Dogra and Dr. Anita Sharma from GDC Udhampur were in the panel of experts to adjudge the participants.
About 18 students from different colleges of Jammu, Udhampur and Ramnagar participated in the seminar.
The first prize was bagged by Parul Arora of Bhaskar Degree College Udhampur, Second prize was bagged by Hemant Dogra of MAM College Jammu, while third prize was clinched by Abhinav R Salgotra of GGM Science College Jammu. Consolation prizes were awarded to Sonam Khajuria from GGM Science College Jammu, Morina Singh from GCW Gandhi Nagar Jammu and Oshin Bakshi from GDC Udhampur.
Preeti Sharma of B.Sc. Part-III conducted the proceedings of the seminar, while Dr Shalini Sharma, HoD English delivered vote of thanks. In the end prizes and certificates were distributed among winners/ participants by the Principal of the College and convener of the seminar.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr Arun Kumar Sharma, Prof Ashni Devi, Dr Ashok Kumar, Dr Parveen Kumari and Prof Davinder Kumar.
