Srinagar, Sept 18: Kashmir University’s Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA) today organized a day long seminar on ‘Income Tax Awareness.’
Principal Commissioner of J&K’s Income Tax Department, Sangeeta Gupta, was chief guest at the seminar while University’s Dean Students Welfare and Dean Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, Prof Neelofar Khan, presided over it.
In her address, Sangeeta Gupta  presented an overview of income tax scenario both at J&K and national level. “A challenge which the IT department continues to face is that most people who fall in tax bracket don’t pay their taxes. This in turn affects the overall development scenario,” she said.
She said some states like Maharashtra are performing better in terms of paying tax.
In her address, Prof Neelofar Khan said such programmes help raise awareness about importance of taxation.
An interactive session, in which students from Kashmir University’s Law Department participated, was also held on the occasion.
Besides faculty members from various University departments, the seminar was attended by officials from J&K’s Income Tax Department.
Earlier, Deputy Director DIQA Showket Shafi welcomed the participants to the seminar while Shabir A Handoo, Income Tax Officer, presented vote of thanks.
