JAMMU, Feb 24: The National Youth Awardees’ Forum of India (NYAFI) organized a seminar on the theme ‘Eradication of Poverty Through Education” in collaboration with the Department of Psychology, University of Jammu, and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Jammu, here on the JU campus.
The seminar was the first of its kind, organized in Jammu by NYAFI-a group of National Youth Awardees and Indira Gandhi NSS National Awardees across the country working together to address the burning issues of the society.
In the keynote address, Dr Prabha Kant, IRS Director General, NYKS, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, GoI, said that education is the brightest hope for breaking the cycle of multi-generational poverty and inequality. Opening classroom doors to all children, especially girls, will help break the intergenerational chains of poverty because education is intrinsically linked to all development goals, such as supporting gender empowerment, improving child health and maternal health, reducing hunger, spurring economic growth, and building peace, he said and mentioned the need to enlighten and create widespread awareness of skill based education among all sections of society particularly in rural areas and among the urban poor.
Puneet Pradhan, president, NYAFI, said that India is set to experience a dynamic transformation by initiating the Youth Revolution whereby the youth takes the responsibility for change, progress and innovation of the country.
The seminar had a special mention about Dr Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KISS and KIIT University, as a testimony to the theme of the seminar. Besides being an internationally renowned social entrepreneur and educationalist, he is a living example of how education could be used as the means for the upliftment of the marginalized and the underprivileged.
The function was presided over by Prof Posh Charak, Dean Research, JU while the welcome address was read by Dr Arti Bakshi, HoD Psychology, JU.
