Seminar on breast cancer held at Women Polytechnic

JAMMU, Dec 17: Government Polytechnic for Women organized an awareness seminar on breast cancer in association with Medanta -The Medicity here today.
Principal Women Polytechnic for Women Neelanjana Manwati welcomed the Speaker Dr Kanchan Kaur (Breast Cancer Specialist) from Medanta Gurgaon.
Dr Kanchan in her awareness lecture gave very informative points on risk factor and preventions of breast cancer, through slides. She laid emphasis on how can one prevent the disease like breast cancer. She said early breast cancer generally causes no symptoms. If you detect it early enough, it can be removed without having spread to the rest of your body, thus increasing chances of survival. She gave important tips like performing self examination every month. Any findings should always be reported to your doctor, get your breasts checked once every year, get a mammogram once a year after the age of 40. Mammography can detect about 90% of cancers. try and control excessive weight gain, don’t eat too many high fat foods or excessive quantities of fatty meats and do exercise regularly.
The HODs, specialist and students of Government Polytechnic for Women and various other departments attended the programme. There was a healthy discussion and interactive session between the students and Dr Kanchan Kaur gave their replies and satisfied them about the do’s and dont’s, myths and facts about the breast cancer.
