Srinagar, Nov 5: A self-styled politician who has been stating his affiliation with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was today arrested by police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag.
The impersonator has been identified as Imran Shaikh of Dialgam Anantnag while those with the know-how of the matter said that he even had a proper security cover and was also allotted a Government quarter for accommodation.
However, the party leadership in the district has rejected his claims of being associated with the BJP even as the accused is also stated to be involved in minting money from people in the name of providing jobs and remitting the electricity bills of poor people.
As per details, there are 6 FIRs registered against him including two under Sections 344, and 345 of IPC registered this year. “He used to carry out Tiranga rallies and other activities; however, we have already rejected his claims of being associated with the BJP,” the party officials said.
“He does not have a membership and he is not associated with the party. He used to loot people, he is even accused of attempting to rape; we appreciate the police for taking the necessary action in this regard; at the same time, people need to be quite aware of such people,” Wajahat Hussain, district president BJP said.
