SRINAGAR, May 17: The Self-Enumeration phase of Census 2027 began today, with authorities describing the initiative as the first of its kind in the history of the Indian Census, allowing citizens to submit their household and demographic details online from their homes.
Principal Census Officer (Urban) and Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Faz Lul Haseeb, while briefing the media here, said the self-enumeration process would continue till May 31, 2026.
He said the citizen-centric initiative has been introduced to facilitate greater public participation and improve the accuracy of Census data through a simple and convenient digital platform.
Highlighting the significance of the exercise, Haseeb said residents can now voluntarily provide their information online without waiting for field enumerators, making the process more transparent, efficient and accessible.
He said the initiative is aimed at strengthening public outreach and supporting welfare-oriented planning by ensuring the availability of reliable demographic data.
Appealing to the public to participate actively in the process, the SMC Commissioner urged residents to complete the self-enumeration within the stipulated timeframe and extend full cooperation to the administration for the successful conduct of Census 2027.
He also asked citizens to furnish accurate and complete information so that the Census exercise reflects a true demographic profile for effective planning and development.
