Sehrai’s sons arrested

Srinagar, May 16: Police arrested two sons of late Ashraf Sehrai, who died on May 5 in a hospital during his imprisonment under Public Safety Act (PSA).
The duo – Mujahid Sehrai and Rashid Sehrai, both sons of late Sehrai, were arrested by Kupwara Police from their residence at Bulbulbagh area of Barzulla, in Srinagar and taken to Kupwara.
They were arrested in connection with a case registered against them on May 6 at the Police Station in Tekkipora-Sogam.
Earlier, two close relatives of late Sehrai were also arrested in connection with the same case.
The Tehreek-i-Hurriyat Chairman, Sehrai, passed away at the Government Medical College in Jammu, where he was brought from a Jammu jail.
Body of late Sehrai was taken to Tekkipora-Sogam graveyard in Kupwara for burial on 6 May where some people were found raising “pro-freedom and provocative slogans”. The video of the same had gone viral on social media and a case was registered against 20 people found raising slogans.
Meanwhile, Police said that Sehrai’s sons have not been booked under Public Safety Act as rumours being circulated on social media.
“Both sons of Late Sehrai & 4 others have been arrested for raising anti-national slogans during funeral. But, they haven’t been booked under PSA. Plz don’t spread rumour”, a tweet by Police said here.
Police replied to the tweet of former CM Mehbooba Mufti who had written on her Twitter that both sons of Late Sehrai were booked under PSA.
