Secularism in India

Sir,
Apropos the article-In the name of secularism.. (D.E. Sept. 27, 2013 by Tavleen Singh) the author has rightly pointed out the misplaced concept of secularism in our polity. Populations are labelled as minorities and majorities  on the basis of religion. Compartments are created and maintained in the society.
Citizens are reminded to be members of a particular religion instead of being Indian citizens with all the Constitutional rights and duties. In a secular setup a citizen is the citizen of that country. Religion is his personal affair and State has not to remind him of his personal beliefs.
Neither a religion is responsible for the economic condition of a citizen. Constitution assures equal opportunities to all citizens irrespective of their personal beliefs. That is the beauty of a secularism.
Different developmental programmes like mid Day Meal  to the school students, MGNERA, Food Security Bill etc. seem to ensure the poor to remain poor and have no promise of bettering his economic conditions even in distant future. Mahatma Gandhi Ji had a vision to usher in prosperity through cottage industry in the village life. Nehru Ji wanted to revolutionize economy of the country through heavy industry where every body would have the promise of a job.Unfortunately,  one of  the  above visions were put to practice. Instead, a neorich, a neo-royal and a permanent poor class have emerged  in the society.
A father, who entered a legislative house ensured the seat for his progeny-thus replacing the royals of yesteryears.
Need of the hour is to rededicate to the cause of National building. The public representatives will have to take a pledge to lead a life of austerity to conform  to the national character, social ethics and high moral values.
Yours etc….
